Tasty Local Kayan Food in Miri

Head on down to My 2nd Kitchen in Miri, where they prepare not only Local Kayan Food but also Laksa Sarawak (which can be up sized that’s enough for 3 person at only RM 6).

The Food:

Babi Hutan with Chili and Asam

It has the sweetness and gamey taste of a wild boar which fortunately is cut down by the chilies and the asam bringing forth an interesting taste and sensation without the unpleasantness of a game meat.

Pakis

Sauteed with generous amount of oil and garlic whilst still preserving its unique taste and crunchy texture.

Potato Leaves

Just like the pakis, sautéed with generous amount of oil with some added chili slices. Has a slightly earthy taste to it.

Sardine

This sardine was a joy to eat, because unlike most sardine flesh, it was soft yet flaky and not only that the chilies added into it made it quite a pleasant to eat, masking any fishy smell.

Pork in Soy Sauce

This is a pretty common food, but the Kayan use a wild boar instead of normal pork meat and thus the sweetness is much more intense and balanced out with the soy sauce.

Pumpkin

This is a personal favorite, I for one love sweet stuff as well as pumpkin. The pumpkin were boiled in water to a certain texture in this case, it was somewhat of an al-dente to somewhat chip like texture. Its akin to eating a potato chip but a much more healthier option as well as sweeter!

The environment of this place is that of a kopitiam, the most comforting place for any Sarawakian to feel at home.

Be wary though as the food sell out fast as it is one of the cheapest Ulu Specialty kopitiam around and a pretty tasty one at that too.

The Price:

Per plate depending on what dish you are taking is average around RM5 to RM7. If you take more meat, it will cost more. Price is at a market average as compared with other Orang Ulu Food Operator.

The Location:

Shop Name: My 2nd Kitchen (opposite of Brewhouse Boulevard)

Address: Lot 3533, Ground floor, Al Bayat Square, Block 5, MCLD, Jalan Pujut -Miri, 98000, Miri, Sarawak.

Operating hour: 6am – 4pm

(*Tip* Orang Ulu food sometimes sold out after lunch time! Recommended to go there for lunch to have more variety to choose from)
