NEWS: Lobster Laksa can be found in Miri!

Greetings, my fellow readers! As Malaysians, we all love a good bowl of flavoursome Laksa on any day of the week. Those finely cooked rice vermicelli being soaked in a very rich broth (usually prawn-based) and then being topped off with some little prawns, Chinese Coriander and shredded eggs omelette. Yums! Very inviting indeed! But have you heard of or tried Lobster Laksa in Miri before?

Yes! You heard me right, LOBSTER LAKSA! We recently found out one of the few places in Miri, or perhaps the only place (to what I know of), that sells Lobster Laksa! And here’s our uptake on it.

Lavender Café, located at Marina Phase 2, serves up a variety of seafood dishes including Lobsters, Alaskan Crabs, Giant Freshwater Prawns and also Tiger Prawns being cooked in their own unique way. We went there one morning specifically to try out their Lobster dishes.

There are various cooking methods for you to pick from for your Lobster preparation. But before that, choose whether you want it the ala carte way (the Lobster on its own) or perhaps in a set (being accompanied with either rice or noodles).

The choices includes your Lobster to be Veggie Steamed, Sweet & Sour Grilled or Tomyam style. There is also the Nasi Lemak Lobster option but it is only available on Mondays and Fridays.

We ordered up for ourselves their popular Buttermilk Grilled Lobster with Golden Fried Rice and also their Laksa Lobster. After the waiting and seeing how the dishes are being prepared, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on those mouth-watering dishes!

First up, we have our Laksa Lobster. Before I begin, take a look at the size of that lobster! FUHH!! Taking so much space on the plate alone, visually I am amazed. The dish is accompanied with a good serving of rice vermicelli, garnished off with several shredded eggs omelettes, a sprinkle of fried shallots and sliced chilli. A spoonful of their sambal and limau will be served on the side as well.

The dish overall tasted amazing, whereby the broth was less on the creamy side and more towards being slightly spicy. The lobster was cooked to perfection, it wasn’t too chewy or rubbery at all. Surely, something very exquisite to the taste buds.

Next, we have their Buttermilk Grilled Lobster with Golden Fried Rice. Personally, this is my favourite among the two dishes, because I really enjoyed the flavours from the buttermilk and also the fried rice. It was so aromatic getting a bite into these while having the lobster.

Now I understand why this dish is very popular among the customers. Lobster, grilled to perfection, scooping up with some of that buttermilk sauce is really divine. I am truly awed!

After getting a load of these two dishes, there’s no turning back. Definitely something you should treat yourself to once in a while.

This shop has been in business for several years now, and they recently changed owners last year (2019). With the new management in place, they ensure that they have enough stock of the lobsters for customers to enjoy without disappointments. Their lobster supply comes in from Bintulu, KL and also the local market. They charge RM 18/ per 100 gram for the lobster and Udang Galah.

Aside from their Lobster Menu, they also have other food items made available for you such as Mee Kolok, Laksa Sarawak, Beef Noodle, Lavender Rice and also Village Fried Rice. All of these price ranges around RM 6 to RM 9, which is pretty affordable. I personally love their Mee Jawa, for sure a MUST TRY!

So, what are you waiting for? Give this place a try if you’re feeling to treat yourself a “premium” sort of food! You won’t regret it.
