Here is my list of 8 different noodles at 8 different places in Miri:

1. Kolo Mee & Steamed Chicken @Lam’s Noodle House

Located behind Imperial Palace, is a small eatery named Lam’s Noodle House which has been operating for many years. This place is famous among the locals for their simple yet delicious Kolo Mee being topped off with several slices of Char Siew.

It was indeed a scrumptious and an affordable plate of noodles. I like to pair my Kolo Mee with the chicken rice stall’s Steamed Chicken. Trust me, it’s the perfect combination! The Steamed Chicken is really succulent and flavourful, especially paired with their chili sauce. Perhaps one of the best places serving Steamed Chicken Rice in Miri. The shop is always packed during lunch hour, so do head on down before 12 noon to grab yourself a filling meal!

2. Laksa Special @Mama’s Taste

A shop out of sight from the main road of Krokop, lies an eatery called Mama’s Taste. I wouldn’t have known about this place if it wasn’t for my friend whom told me that I could find Cheese Laksa here! Yes, you heard me right! CHEESE LAKSA!

Image taken by Borneo Foodie

This place could be the first in Miri serving Laksa with a layer of quality cheese on top. I find the dish rather interesting to my taste buds, whereby the cheese coated those little juicy prawns giving that creamy texture. I have to admit, the broth for the Laksa was pretty spot on, and the cheese didn’t overpower the dish at all. Are you curious on how this taste like? 3. Kampua & Wantan @New 88 Food Centre

New 88 Food Centre, situated near Imperial Palace serves one of the best Kampua I had so far in Miri. Hands down! The taste is just absolutely, very close to Sibu’s Kampua I have to say so myself, a fellow Sibuian.

Those silky smooth noodles cooked to perfection, paired with their juicy and fat Wantans is just out of this world. Being topped off with a spoonful of well-marinated minced meat and slices of pork, and a sprinkle of chopped spring onions making the whole dish very appetizing. Definitely worth your calories, you have my word!

4. Army’s Stew with Noodles @The Corner

Craving for some Korean-inspired dish? Try out this Army’s Stew hotpot served with Local Noodles at The Corner. This shop is located at Boulevard Commercial Centre in Miri, specifically opposite Chen Kee Hai Nam Chicken Rice.

This massive hotpot could feed up to 2-3 people and will surely leave you satisfied! The broth is somewhat similar to the taste of “Gochujang” sauce, which isn’t overwhelmingly spicy but rather addictive. The dining experience would be even more enjoyable while sipping on some of their milk tea. It will have you slurping onto those noodles continuously!

For this dish, you get generous amounts of sliced hotdogs, crabsticks, fishcakes, fishballs and lastly, a slice of cheese being placed on top which will slowly melt, coating some of the noodles. I would say, comfort food to have on rainy days.

5. Fish Head “Zao Cai Hun Gang” @Ah Seh Cafe

Mirians are very familiar with an eatery called Ah Seh Café located in Piasau area in Miri. This is because, no other places does it better than here in serving up a good and warm bowl of “Hun Gang Dan” or “Zao Cai Hun Gang”.

Personally, I also think this place is great as it taste quite similar on how Sibu does it. Perhaps that is why my parents like this place so much for breakfast. Their Fish Head “Zao Cai Hun Gang” has some really substantial flavours, from the sourness of the preserved vege used in it. There is also a decent amount of fresh fish in the dish, good enough to have you filled.

Ranging from Kolo Mee, Roasted Pork Rice to Fish Head Noodles. My favourite from this place has got to be their Curry Pork Noodle – Roasted Pork and BBQ Pork as my pork selection. Those yellow noodles are being drenched in that flavoursome gravy of curry and being garnished with Chinese Coriander. Best eaten while still the soup is piping hot!

Kuan Heng Café located at the heart of Miri City serves a plate of homemade noodles which I find very unique. Despite looking simple on its appearance, their dish called “鱼滑面Yu Hua Mian” or I would call it as Fishcakes Noodles is very tasty and delicate.

Just a plate of homemade springy egg noodles, served with several slices of fishcakes and some leafy greens being drenched in some light soy sauce seasonings is good enough to have you wanting for more! 8. Hokkien Mee @Bee Ho Kopitiam

It’s pretty hard for me to find the perfect place that cooks Hokkien Mee using noodles which are on the thicker side rather than the slightly thin versions like the ones used in mee gorengs. Not long ago, I found the perfect eatery that not only checks that out my list, but as a dish itself that tastes supremely good as how a Hokkien Mee should taste like.

Bee Ho Kopitiam located at Centre Point Commercial Centre serves one of the best Hokkien Mee I have tried so far in Miri. From the thick and luscious dark sauce coating every single ingredients in the dish including the fishcakes, vege, thick noodle and some pieces of crispy pork lards. Every mouthful of this, may have you on Cloud 9. Did I mention that their portion is also rather generous?
