This Hawker Center is the perfect spot for Breakfast and Tea Time! Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre

Hi there foodies! We’re still indeed crazy for the food in Kuching, Sarawak. The amount of good food in Kuching infinite! This time, we bring to you, Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre! Th is place is not only very popular among Kuchingites but to outsiders too.

Song Kheng Hai is a 2 story open air centre. It’s not only a place to get great local delicacies, but it is also a popular recreation center. The top floor of this place is filled with stalls selling local food from fried rice, kompia, refreshing drinks like sugarcane coconut and many more. We managed to try the food and drink at two stalls here, let’s have a look at it!

The Refreshing Ayer Tebu dan Kelapa at Song Kheng Hai Hawker Center

First, we had the Ayer Tebu dan Kelapa (Sugarcane Coconut) at Stall 1, Mao Zhong Drink Stall. This stall serves only Sugarcane Coconut and only that! Also, every glass of Sugarcane coconut is freshly made on the spot.

Not only that, freshly scraped coconut flesh is added into each glass. They have two sizes, small and big. It was a super hot day that day, so we had the big glass of course! Funny thing is, after a few minutes having it, it rained. Well, that’s Kuching’s weather for you, folks! Moving on with the taste, it is definitely refreshing and delicious. When I first heard of this combination, it made me super curious how it tastes. I was not disappointed.

The Foo Chow Kompia at Stall No 7 Rihga

The Foo Chow Kompia is a local favorite almost everywhere in Sarawak. It’s a bagel-like bun with sesame seeds with fillings of char siew (minced pork) in the middle. Many places have evolved and created other fillings as well. Just like Rihga, they have fillings like cheese, garlic and also ham.

You must definitely try out all the flavors! We wanted to try them all, but the Cheese and Garlic flavor was sold out. It must be really good. I loved how crispy and savory the kompia was.

Conclusion

Overall, our experience at the Song Kheng Hai Hawker Center was amazing but sadly too short! There were many more other stalls that we did not manage to try and explore. (Another reason to schedule a trip to Kuching again!) Also, if you guys have been here, what’s your favorite stall or dish?
