Check Out What We Found at Bazaar Ramadan Miri 2023

It’s already been a week since Ramadan started my fellow Borneo Foodies! Of course we checked out the Bazaar Ramadan Miri 2023. I will not say much in this entry but list the food that we found at 3 over 12 Bazaars that are available in Miri, Sarawak.

Before we start with the list of food, allow me to share with you guys the list of places in Miri that has Bazaar Ramadan.

Kuih Bongkol and Putu Mayam

First we have Kuih Bongkol! Kuih Bongkol is not something you can easily find when it’s not Ramadan! So, I was so happy when I saw this at the Bazaar. Other than that, there’s also Putu Mayam. Putu Mayam is actually an Indian delicacy but has been well welcomed by Malaysian! I love the kuih myself, and this is also not a kuih you can easily find in Miri if it’s not Ramadan.

Celorot and Kuih Pelita

It has been a hot minute since I last saw a kuih Celorot (the pic on the left). This kuih is a traditional Malay Sarawak kuih. I remember it used to be longer and a little bigger back in the days! Nevertheless, I was one of the happies people at the Bazaar to have found it! Next to it is the Kuih Pelita. Kuih Pelita is a popular Malaysian dessert made with coconut milk and rice flour, traditionally steamed in small cups lined with banana leaves. AND it’s always the hot item during this time of the year.

There are also crispy Apam Balik if you are a fan of one. It’s a delicious Malaysian snack made with a crispy outer layer and a sweet, fluffy filling of peanuts, sugar, and butter. I personally like the fluffier ones better!

There are also a bunch of other really delicious kuih muih and also some donuts and bombolonis. Most importantly, do you see the third picture on the left, that’s Nona Manis. This kuih is also one of those that makes its appearance during the Ramadan time only! We of course bought that, and umphhh it was oh so good!

Although there are only 4 canopies at this particular Bazaar, you can also find rare dishes and kuih-muih that originates from the West Malaysia. Most of the seller here are families of the Army who are from the West and are stationed here in Sarawak!

Lompat Tikam in Miri

Here, we found something we didn’t find at any other bazaar! The kuih Lompat Tikam. If you don’t know what it is, it’s a traditional Malaysian dessert. It is said that it’s one of the popular item at Ramadan bazaars. I believe in West Malaysia it is, but do correct me if I am wrong!

The second picture above is Ikan Keli with Sambal. That particular stall sells Nasi Minyak with different meat that you can choose. We highlighted the Nasi Minyak Keli because it’s not often you can find them on the daily.

Apart from that, they also have Nasi Kerabu Ayam, Daging and Ikan which ranges from RM7-RM8 only! This is what I find amusing at this particular bazaar, the price is affordable. They also have Kueh Teow Goreng Kerang which only costs us RM4 ANDDD it was delicious! I am not even kidding, I will go back there and repeat the Kueh Teow Goreng Kerang. It’s that good!

Bazaar Ramadan Indoor Stadium Miri

The last place we went was the Bazaar Ramadan Indoor Stadium Miri. I believe this one is the largest bazaar in Miri. They do have a lot of choices of food and delicacies. BUT, do come around like earlier than 4.30pm. I went there once around 5pm after watching John Wick 5, but not much was left around that time. So, take it from me, come there earlier, so you have more options! Here’s what we found there.

First, there was Chicken Shawarma! I’m not a fan of one, but if you are, they have it here. This is a stall from Khan’s Islamic. They also have other dishes there.

The first picture is the Ketam Bertelur! It’s not often you find these kind of dishes at a food market. They also have BBQ Chicken, freshly press sugar cane drink, Siu Mai and more! The options and the number of dish, desserts, drinks here are endless.

Here’s the Sugarcane drink I mentioned earlier! It’s really nice for me, because it tastes authentic. The first day I went there, they were all OUT! So, I made sure I got it on my second visit, and it was heavenly!

Besides all that, there’s also Beef and Chicken Chang that are usually made by the Chinese. So, I was super intrigued to see a Muslim-friendly option for my fellow Muslim friends to try the local Chinese delicacy! There’s also a bunch of other things like Traditional Malaysian kuih muih as well here. Not to forget, there’s also Nasi Pulut and Lemang.

Alright, I think that’s about it for my entry this time. If you made it this far, I think I lied when I said I won’t say much. Oh my word. If you haven’t visited the Bazaar yet, what are you waiting for? Enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, the delicious aroma of traditional Malaysian cuisine, the hustle and bustle of the crowds. It’s been a while since we last had Bazaar Ramadan, we don’t what’s gonna happen next.
