Top 5 Places to Eat Kampua in Sibu

Kampua – a delectable local favorite and the childhood memory of every local person in Sibu. Kampua is so versatile that locals have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. As a Sibuian, I remembered consuming this delicacy at a tender age of four.

Thus as a seasoned kampua eater in Sibu, I am going to tell you guys what are my personal top kampua picks in Sibu, that i would recommend to you guys

1. Kampua Mee @Aloha Corner

The first spot I would definitely recommend to eat Kampua is Aloha Corner. Situated in Sibu City Center, this cafe is always crowded with locals from 7 am in the morning to 1 pm in the afternoon. Most customers opt for Kampua even though Laksa, Char Kuay Teow and Roti Canai are available too.

The Kampua here is well flavored with pork lard, soy sauce and fried shallots. It is not too oily and yet flavorful at the same time. The noodles taste fresh and springy when chewed. The clear spring onion soup served by the side is a great accompaniment for the noodles. [Non – Halal]

Shop name: Aloha Corner
Address: Jalan Keranji, Pekan Sibu, 96000 Sibu, Sarawak

2. Kampua Mee @Best Harvest Cafe

The second recommended spot is Best Harvest Cafe near Aman Road Roundabout. Situated near one of the smallest roundabout in Sibu, this cafe serves kampua with a good show! I was there last Sunday and managed to watch the lady tossing kampua noodles high in the air and catch them well enough to serve in a bowl. She used her whole upper body strength to toss the noodles high up in the air.

When the kampua was served, I tasted them and understood that it was not just a show. The tossing act is essential to drain out the excess boiling water from the noodles. No wonder the noodles tasted extra springy and were better coated with the sauce. [Non – Halal]

The Location:

Shop name: Best Harvest Cafe
Address: No. 6A, Lorong 2, Jalan Aman, 96000 Sibu, Sarawak
Operating hours: Opens daily from 6am

3. Kampua Mee @Hock Lok Hong Cafe

The third spot is a place where I went to have kampua in an area where I used to go for tuition. The cafe name is Hock Lok Hong Cafe. I used to have kampua there after I finished my tuition. Hock Lok Hong Cafe usually sold out their kampua before 11am. It’s a solid proof of how delicious their kampua is.

Like many other kampua vendors, they serve it classically. However, the taste is much different. The pork lard they used does not make the noodles oily, instead the noodles has a tasty fragrant. They provide soy sauce, white (no soy sauce), dry and soup options.

Customers can opt for kampua with or without char siew meat slices too. However, the plain original soy sauce kampua is the all time favorite. [Non – Halal]

The Location:

Shop name: Hock Lok Hong Cafe
Address: 6, 1, Lorong Lanang 2, Pekan Sibu, 96000 Sibu, Sarawak
Operating hours: Opens daily from 6.30am
Waze/Google maps: Search for “Hock Lok Hong Cafe”

4. Sizzling Beef Kampua @Noodle House

The forth spot to have kampua will be the Noodle House. A fusion restaurant serving Sizzling Beef Kampua, a great twist on classic kampua. Their Sizzling Beef Kampua is the best option for anyone who would like to have a fulfilling meal. It comes with classic kampua, sizzling beef in dark sauce and broccoli served on a hot plate. Such a great lunch or dinner idea.

The beef is tender, well cooked and well seasoned which makes it the perfect pair with kampua noodles. Served fresh on a hot plate, even the next table can smell and hear the tempting sizzling sound.
