Miri is known for its gorgeous beaches, scenic places to watch the sunset, chill and have a picnic with your loved ones. I noticed that lately, picnic gatherings have become THE activity for Mirians. Honestly, I love seeing it! So, in case you’re looking for something fun to do during the weekends, we’ve compiled a list of scenic, beautiful picnic spots in Miri. Without wasting any more time, let’s get into it!

1. The Perfect picnic spot does not exi — Luak Esplanade, Miri

First, we have the Luak Esplanade, Miri. Located 10km away from the Miri Center, this spot is usually filled with locals and visitors during the weekends. It’s a perfect place to just chill, watch the sunset while you munch on your mini sandwiches. Not only that, Esplanade is also one of the people’s favorite places to have a little, cute picnic. It’s not unusual to see a few picnic mats or even camps being set up here.

2. The Ideal Picnic spot in Miri – Pulau Melayu

Haaa, Pulau Melayu? Serious lah? YESSSS, dead serious. One would’ve thought there’s nothing to see behind all those trees and bushes. Surprise, surprise, there’s actually a really beautiful spot to have your picnic here. I had my picnic there with my best friends and it was great. Anyway, this spot is located less than 10km away from Miri city center. It is not hard to find this spot, search Pulau Melayu, follow the maps and go straight, and never look back. Just kidding! I mean, if you have already passed the Miri Golf Club, you’re on the right track. Be mindful of the entrance, as the pathway to go in that area is only one way, you’ll have to be aware of other cars coming in and out.

My little picnic experience

Ok, now, I want to share my experience having a picnic here! You know how the weather in Miri gets a little surprising? Yeah, so it was sunny at first when we planned this. Then, when we arrived there, it was WINDY! We couldn’t even get our picnic mat to stay still without flapping. Despite that, the weather got better as the day went on and we were able to enjoy the beautiful sunset there. This spot is always filled with families and a bunch of friends who enjoy fishing or just lepak-ing there. You will also be able to see the skyscraping Pullman Hotel Miri across the waters from there.

You can also take super aesthetic pictures here. When I say Miri’s sunset is unbeatable, I mean it. Just look at that!

3. Seas the Day at Piasau Boat Club Miri

Next on the list, we have the gorgeous Piasau Boat Club Miri which is located not far from Pulau Melayu, and is 8.2km away from the city center. Piasau Boat Club used to be a place for members only. Now, they are open to the public from Monday to Sunday, 9.00am till 9.00pm. Also, for everyone’s info, they do charge an entrance fee of RM10 for adults, RM5 for 12-17 year olds and those below 12 year old are free. Fret not, the fee that you paid can be used to buy anything from their restaurant! I had a picnic-themed birthday last two years here and the scenery was just stunning. Other than having a picnic with a table and chair settings like I did, there are also open spaces near the beaches where you can lay your picnic mats!

4. The Evergreen Miri City Park

Miri Central Park is one of many locals’ favorite spots to jog, bring their dog for a walk, and also enjoy a lovely picnic. It has even become an attraction for visitors! This spot is located near the picturesque Miri City Hall. Having a really spacious, open space in the middle, it has been everyone’s favorite to enjoy a picnic, flying kites, and even some doggo meetups! I even saw someone bring their goat here, YES, a literal GOAT. That was pretty interesting, really. I didn’t take a picture, but if you know what I mean Mirian, holler at me.

And oh, you can definitely enjoy watching the sunset here. These pictures aren’t edited, taken from an Iphone 7. I mean, does Miri’s sunset ever need editing?

5. The Outsanding Peliau Beach, Bekenu

Now, this one is interesting to me! I did not know about this place in the beginning until a friend told me about it. If you’re looking to spend an intimate, romantic picnic far from the busy, usual spots, I’d really recommend going here. Located a little further from the others, Peliau Beach is a 48 minutes drive from Miri. Phewww! I mean, if you think the view and the privacy is worth the drive, then why not? Road trip time!

Conclusion

The weekend is coming! Block your friend’s or family’s schedule for a splendid picnic at any of these 5 spots I mentioned. I strongly recommend all these places, but of course it depends on what kind of place you’re looking for to have your picnic. I hope my article helped and sparked an interest in you all to enjoy a picnic at the beautiful places in Miri.
