Rojak India found in Miri, Sarawak! – Abeb Family Cafe

Hi Borneo Foodies! Guess what? We found a place serving Rojak India in Miri, Sarawak.  If you love THE legendary Rojak Kucei in Batu Lintang, Kuching, you will love this too! It’s Abeb Family Cafe.

About Abeb Family Cafe

Abeb Family Cafe used to operate at a humble ‘pondok’ nearby their current location, for a year. Now, they have upgraded and have a bigger space for people to dine in. Located in the Pulau Melayu area, it’s not hard to find this place! From the Piasau Camp traffic light, drive straight until you see The Golf Club, Abeb Family Cafe will be on your left.

This place is owned by two young men, mentored by their father who is a nephew of the famous Rojak Kucei place in Kuching, Sarawak. Seeing their father talk enthusiastically about serving people good food, and teaching his young boys to do business was just inspirational. He wanted to continue the legacy of his late uncle, thus he decided to bring the menu here in Miri, Sarawak. Alrighty, now that you know a little bit about the place, let’s check out their food!

The FOOD at Abeb Family Cafe

Rojak Pulo

First off, we have the Rojak at Abeb Family Cafe. It’s not the usual Rojak we Mirians are used to. It’s Rojak India and it’s called Pasembur. Pasembur is an Indian Muslim rojak with shredded vegetables, eggs, tofu, and fritters drenched in a sweet potato dressing. I love, love, love this dish! I first tried this kind of Rojak in Kuching. The one in Kuching was my first time, and it was kind of my benchmark for this dish. So, when I tried the Rojak Pulo here in Miri, I definitely had expectations. Guess what? They definitely lived up to my expectation. To say, it’s a mirror of the Rojak Kucei, no, but it is delicious as it is! Should you try this? Y-E-S. Period.

Rojak Special – Image taken by Borneo Foodie

They have 3 different variations of this dish, Rojak Biasa, Rojak Ayam, and also Rojak Special. Rojak Biasa only consists of everything except chicken, Rojak Ayam has fried chicken whereas Rojak Special has an extra amount of everything. So, it varies in portion for the Rojak Special. For first-timers, I suggest getting the Rojak Ayam!

Mee Jawa Special

Next up, we have their Mee Jawa Special! I like their Mee Jawa for its thick gravy. My idea of a perfect plate of Mee Jawa would be how delicious their gravy is and also if there are nuts! I don’t know about you, but I love some nuts to top my Mee Jawa. The one I tried here doesn’t have nuts, but I still like it cos the gravy was nice and thick. Should you get it? If you’re a Mee Jawa lover, YES!

Char Kuey Tiaw

Char Kuey Tiaw!! That’s it. Just kidding! We also tried their Char Kuey Tiaw. We tried the Char Kuey Tiaw with ‘kerang’ and it was so good. I don’t know if the pictures we took are doing justice, but you should try this dish too! It’s very flavorful for me. Also, the portion was quite big for one person. Some can even share this one plate in my opinion.

Nasi Goreng Dabai Telur Mata Ikan Masin

Lastly, we had the Nasi Goreng DabaI Telur Mata Ikan Masin. Pheww! That was a mouthful. This dish was recommended by the owner itself. He said this is one of the recommended dishes he would want people to try from their place. For their Nasi Goreng, they use Dabai Masin to make it. When I heard that there will be Dabai Masin and also Ikan Masin in it, I was expecting it to taste a little salty! But, it was actually the opposite. The fried rice was just nice and flavorful.

Nasi Pengilan Abeb Family Cafe

Additional information for my fellow Borneo Foodies! On weekends, this place has a new, special menu, which is the Nasi Pengilan. It is only available on weekends starting 9am onwards. If you miss eating Nasi Pengilan, but none of your friends are getting married yet, visit this place! >,<

Verdict

I can conclude that everything we tried here was delicious! Cun pada tekak orang kita. Haa gitu! If you’re looking for a new place to enjoy breakfast or lunch, you should definitely check this place out. One thing though, when it’s nearing brunch hours, there will be more people and the place gets a little hot when there’s no wind. Nevertheless, still a place I would go to for breakfast!
