I’m not talking about the regular American cream puffs that get soggy in 5mins, nope! I’m talking about the crackly and crunchy Japanese Cream Puffs that you can find at Hokkaido Ice Cream Puff Miri. Not only that, the cream puff shells are also loaded with generous scoops of ice cream, truly stuffed to the brim!
Originating from Ipoh, Perak, Hokkaido Ice Cream Puffs Miri is a hidden gem tucked away at Jalan Jee Foh Krokop. If you’re looking for this place, then be sure to search for DK Motion because the shop is literally located inside DK Motion.
Step inside and you will be greeted with a minimalistic yet cozy ambience for you to wind down. Here, you can see first-hand from how the choux pastry shells are baked to how the ice cream is perfectly scooped into the cream puffs.
Freshly baked cream puffs to ensure maximum crunchiness
As you can see from the picture, dollops of the cream puff batter are uniformly laid on the tray. Then, their in-house special cookie batter is put on top of the cream puff batter. It is this part of the process that gives the crunchy, crispy and cookie-like top to the cream puffs.
The tray is then put into the oven for the choux pastry shells to bake. Did you know that, the hot steam from the cream puff batter is what makes the cream puff shells to expand, hence creating the airy pouches within them!
After they are baked, the shells are then taken out to cool down and set. Before these shells are served, they are toasted in the oven once again to ensure the shells are crunchy right before serving.

The flavors that I chose were Green Tea, Charcoal, Yam and Cookies & Cream. As you can see, the size of the ice cream scoop is massive and the cream puffs look so kawaii! The ice cream was really creamy, silky and not overwhelmingly sweet. My personal favorite was the Green Tea one as I can really taste that strong and authentic green tea was used here. The charcoal also had an interesting flavor profile, having hints of vanilla, coconut and some extent of smokiness to it! Not to mention, the black color is so sexy and makes for an Instagram-worthy dessert shot! As the ice cream melts on your tongue and as your teeth lands on the crunchy cream puff shells, that is a heavenly desserts moment that will surely be worth the calories!
