2. Pete’s Deli

Pete’s Deli is the place to go when you are craving for a hearty meal of roasted chicken. This small and cozy diner has been serving customers roasted chicken since 1992. It’s definitely an oldie but a goodie. Pete’s Deli is located opposite SMK Chung Hua Miri and many students have great memories of enjoying their lunch during their high school days. After all these years, ex-students still come back to the diner to reminisce the nostalgic taste of their roasted chicken.

The roasted chicken is served in quarter size with sides of coleslaw and mash potato. The chicken is well seasoned in and out. Crispy brown skin on the outside and juicy white meat on the inside. The chicken meat can be shredded off a fork so effortlessly. Let’s not forget about the gravy that is poured all over the chicken. This makes it way more flavourful and savoury which will explain why many plates are found spotless once customers are done having their chicken.

Let’s talk about the side dishes for a moment. The mash potato is absolutely amazing! It’s super creamy and fluffy. It tastes amazing and has the perfect texture. What more could you ask for? This proves how awesome the mash potato is. The coleslaw also complements the whole dish quite well. Shredded cabbage with a bit of a tangy taste is enough to balance everything to create such a wholesome dish.

Chicken Rice is known as a dish that has deep history with China, the Hainanese to be specific. It is said to be adapted from the early Chinese immigrants originally from Hainan Province in Southern China. Fast forward to all these years, chicken rice has turned into a culinary staple and popular local food in Malaysia.

Country Chicken Rice has its own history with chicken rice. They have been serving chicken rice for more than a decade. Throughout all these years of business, Country Chicken Rice has successfully attracted the attention of our fellow Mirians. This is only because they maintain serving chicken rice with superb quality since day one. Did I mention that they only charge RM 3.80 for a plate of chicken rice? That’s right folks, you can enjoy a scrumptious meal of chicken rice at such an affordable price! This will surely paint a wide smile on your face.

Country Chicken Rice offers the two classic types of chicken rice which are Roasted Chicken Rice and Steamed Chicken Rice. The chicken rice dish includes seasoned rice, a bowl of soup, slices of chicken garnished with cucumbers. The chicken meat is really juicy and filled with flavour. Extra points for the seasoned rice that has such fragrant aroma! You can also add on some chicken liver or chicken heart to your chicken rice.

4. Jing Wood Cafe

Without a doubt, Western style chicken is one of many people’s favourite. That is why fellow Mirians love to stop by Jing Wood Cafe to have dinner. I have been going to Jing Wood Cafe ever since I was a kid. In fact, it is one of my go-to-places for western food. I’m sure that many of you might agree with me.

The western stall at Jing Wood Cafe offers many western dishes which many of them are chicken based. They serve the classic Chicken Chop which is one of the quite popular items among their menu. The chicken cutlet is grilled to perfection with golden brown skin. Black Pepper or Mushroom sauce is poured all over the chicken to add flavour. French fries, a small portion of salad and baked beans are served on the side. There you have it, the classic western chicken chop for you to enjoy.

Other than the Chicken Chop, the eatery also has other chicken dishes for you to try. For instance, their Chicken Maryland. Seasoned chicken cutlet coated with bread crumbs and deep fried to get that perfect crunch. If you love cheese then the Chicken Cordon Bleu is perfect for you. 5. Ayam Penyet Ria

Ayam Penyet is the dish that Malaysians know and love. The main star of this Indonesian dish would be their crispy fried chicken. The chicken is smashed to soften the meat which makes it extra tender. This famous chicken dish surged in popularity across South East Asia when multiple restaurants started to open featuring this delicious dish. One of the most famous Ayam Penyet restaurants in Miri has to be Ayam Penyet Ria.

Ayam Penyet Ria is commonly found crowded with customers enjoying Ayam Penyet during lunch hours and dinner time. According to their Facebook page, the peak hours are around 12pm until 2 pm and 7pm until 9pm. This just shows how amazing the Ayam Penyet is at Ayam Penyet Ria. Ayam Penyet is served with a large piece of crispy chicken thigh, fried Tempeh, fried tofu and some raw vegetables which are referred as ‘ulam’.

The chicken is seasoned well and fried so that you get a mouthful of flavour and crunch as you bite into the chicken. The sambal is to spice the dish a little. Dip your chicken into the sambal for an extra kick on your flavour palate. The raw vegetables will help balance out the spiciness from the sambal.
