Café hoppers rejoice! With the numerous cafes and restaurants sprawling in Kuching, you definitely won’t run out of options on where to chill. If you’re looking for good cup of latte, quality brunch or beautiful cakes, these 7 cafes in Kuching are definitely worth checking out!

1. Le Parlour Café Studio

Looking for how to spend a lazy Saturday? Maybe grab a book or two, and even a cup of coffee at Le Parlour Café Studio.

This book café not only sets a sophisticated yet cozy ambience, but also serves delicious food such as their signature poke bowls! I personally tried their Hawaiian Chicken Bowl, which consisted of pearl rice and grilled chicken thigh mixed with many other colorful ingredients such as Kyuri, carrots, wakame, edamame, avocado, ebiko, cherry tomatoes, etc.

But what really made the dish so good was their own homemade lime aioli and anahala sauce. Nutritious and delicious all in one bowl!

Le Parlour’s Spicy Chicken Meatball Bolognese Pasta was also noteworthy! The spaghetti was smothered with a fragrant and tangy but rich and meaty Bolognese sauce while the meatballs were juicy and succulent. The café also serves other pasta such as seafood aglio, olio, smoked duck olio and salted egg butter prawn pasta.

What is a book café without good coffee as good company? Go and try out their Gula Apong Latte! As we all know, Gula Apong, is a type of palm sugar which is widely used in Sarawak. The sweetness of Gula Apong supplemented the bitterness and enhanced the aroma of the coffee. Perfect for strong coffee lovers!

2. Kosa Coffee

Any travelling foodie knows that Vietnam has one of the most vibrant coffee cultures in South East Asia, if not globally. And Kosa Coffee perfectly captures the traditional Vietnamese coffee scene with an elegant and modern setting.

Their signature Vietnamese Coffee definitely tasted like the real thing! Made from the strong Robusta coffee beans, the Vietnamese Coffee sits on the stronger and bolder spectrum of coffee. Mixed with condensed milk, here you have a very deliciously creamy, sweet and caffeinated iced cup of joe.

Kosa Coffee also serves a solid array of pastries and confectionaries. One of their recommended pastries was the Almond Rings. This flaky confection was coated with sugar candy and sliced almonds, which heightened the crunchiness even more.

You’ll definitely go nuts from the nutty almond undertone hinted with every flake and crisp that enters your mouth.

Amazing cakes? Yes, they have it too! Their Avocado Cheesecake was my personal favorite. Most avocado cheesecakes are dense and sometimes too heavy, but Kosa Coffee managed to make their cheesecake texture light but flavorful, creamy but still airy.

The avocado taste did not overwhelm the cheese, nor did the cheese override the avocado, in fact they were matched together delightfully that it will simply melt in your mouth.

3. TEASE By Jase Team Room

TEASE is one of those places where you can just sit down, listen to the relaxing nova music along with their rustic yet cozy ambience. With high ceilings, spacious interior and hipster lighting, TEASE is simply a perfect place to have tea and cakes.

Known for their teas, TEASE has a great selection of teas to choose from. My pick was their Rose Jasmine Tea. The floral scent of the Jasmine was soothing and uplifting while the rose was so fragrant and calming. I had this on a rainy day and it was simply perfect!

TEASE boasts a colorful and elegant array of cakes and we tried their Lychee Rose Cake. The cream was infused with lychee flavors and was beautifully layered with soft and moist sponge cakes. The rose petals on top gave another burst of rose flavor and crunchiness. The floral tone of the rose and sweet scent of the lychee made this dessert so refreshing to eat!

Another recommended cake was their Strawberry Shortcake. Layers of airy vanilla sponge cake sat upon layers of Chantilly cream. The Chantilly cream was also infused with strawberry flavors and had strawberry sauce oozing out of it to make the ultimate strawberry bomb. So. Good.

4. Commons

Located at the scenic Old Court House, Commons is definitely a popular dining spot for both Kuchingites and tourists.

What I like the most at Commons was definitely their freshly baked cakes. Their Tiramisu Cake was definitely a show-stopper. You can find two types of Tiramisu Cake – one contains alcohol while the other doesn’t.

I tried the non-alcoholic version and it was delicious. The sponge was sufficiently soaked with the right amount of espresso, layered with a very rich but airy mascarpone mousse.

Another cake that we tried at Commons was their Earl Grey Chocolate Cake. An unfamiliar combination but the taste did not disappoint! The scents of Earl Grey tea unexpectedly enhanced the floral notes and richness of chocolate.

The cake was really moist and the buttercream on top was not too sweet. Definitely a decadent alternative to your regular chocolate cake!

These cakes went perfectly well with the Chai Tea Latte that we ordered. This warm and cozy tea was full of chai spices, bold and strong in flavor! They also serve Dirty Chai Latte, in which coffee is also added in.

5. Ken’s Kitchen

With so many cafes and restaurants in Saradise, Ken’s Kitchen definitely stands out as one of the best places that serves European Fusion Cuisine. With it’s open kitchen concept and bright natural lighting, Ken’s Kitchen should definitely be on your go to brunch venues!

Ken’s kitchen categorizes its menu into breakfast, lunch or dinner. As it was the perfect time for brunch, we tried their Egg Royale. The dish consisted of smoked salmon, sandwiched in between their homemade muffins. The muffins are then topped with poached eggs and then poured with the what makes this dish truly decadent – deliciously creamy and silky Hollandaise Sauce!

For desserts, I just had to try their Chocolate Lava Cake! The cake was firm on the outside but a single slice reveals the hot chocolate lava gorgeously oozing out of the cake.

While most lava cakes had a runny center, their chocolate lava was uniquely thicker and gooier in consistency. The sour blueberry compote countered the richness of the chocolate perfectly. Served with vanilla ice cream, this warm and cold combination will definitely tantalize your taste buds.

This café specializes in CHOCOLATE. Hence, I just had to try their Choco Chip Brownie Frappe. The chocolate flavor was intense and you can really taste that high-quality chocolate was used.

For desserts, I ordered their premium walnut brownies. The brownie top was crispy while the brownie texture was gooey and full of chocolatey goodness. The flavors and crunch from the walnuts went along perfectly with the chocolate flavor.

They also have many other types of drinks such as this Kale Smoothie. The kale was blended with Cavendish Banana and Greek Yoghurt, so if you’re looking for something healthy and refreshing, then this drink is definitely for you.

Located in Green Heights Shopping Mall, Wonderboom is a wide and spacious café that has an equally wide array of dishes and desserts to choose from. If you’re craving for something flavorful, why not try their Indonesian Creamy Soto Ayam.

This creamy chicken soup has a punchy flavor as it was cooked with numerous spices and coconut milk. You can choose the type of noodles of your liking and it is also served with sambal and eggs.

Not only that, Wonderboom also has a variety of signature rice bowls. And they are very very colorful! One of it is this Chimichurri Grilled Chicken Wonderbowl.
