5 Bak Kut Teh Places You Gotta Try In Miri

Good afternoon, my fellow readers! When was the last time you had a great bowl of steaming hot Bak Kut Teh served in a claypot in Miri? We all have our own preference when it comes to defining a good Bak Kut Teh, am I right? Some like it peppery, dry, soup, herbally or even perhaps light to the palate?

My personal take upon this dish would be – a light but flavoursome broth filled with fall-off-the-bone pork, fresh and crunchy lettuce and of course, fluffy fried bean curd to soak up all that warm goodness! Pairing the pork meat with chilli padi, minced garlic and black soy sauce. Fuhhhh!! The best combination!

Here are my 5 recommendations for good Bak Kut Teh in Miri:

1. Klang Claypot Bak Kut Teh

This eatery called Klang Claypot Bak Kut Teh serves one of the best that Miri has to offer. The shop shares the same the same row of buildings as A Hong’s Grocer and Luak Bay Food Court.

Their Bak Kut Teh soup is very aromatic, filled with a generous amount of the pork and bean curd. It is more on the heavy side for me, but it is not overpowering at all. Don’t forget to munch onto those crunchy fresh lettuce!

They also serve up Dry Bak Kut Teh, which is surprisingly enjoyable for someone like me who rarely eats the dry version. Every bite of the pork, is accompanied with their black sauce which wasn’t too salty or spicy. Pretty great flavours here if you ask me!

Ordering up a bowl of yao zha guai (Chinese fried churros) is an added bonus as it helps soaks up the soup when eating together with rice.

The soup here is not too thick, neither is it light, somewhere right in between. The pork here is really tender and meaty, never a disappointment each time I’m here!

Get ready those forks (or chopsticks if you must), because you’re gonna pull off some crazy tender meat of the bone! Their bowl of rice which has been cooked with fried shallots makes the dish even more appetizing to eat with.

The portions here are rather generous, making your meal very much worth it. The very rich and luscious broth has been brewed for hours giving that very strong and aromatic taste. It is not overpowering in any way, pairing it with a bowl of rice makes the whole dish perfect.

A delicate bowl of aromatic pork broth consisting of succulent meat, bouncy meatballs and puffy deep fried tofu pieces that soaks up all those good flavours. I added on some delicate enoki mushrooms to my order as a treat. The broth is very much on the lighter side, but it doesn’t neglect the porky-flavour. This place also offers the Dry version of Bak Kut Teh if you are seeking to try it!
