Ice Cream Gula Apong is an original dessert that was invented in Sarawak. Hence, it is our pleasure to share with you one of the best (if not, the finest) dessert Sarawak has to offer.
Established in 2006, R.G. Ais Krim Bergula Apong was the 1st to sell this dessert in Malaysia! In the afternoon, the shop is operated by Richard, who opened it nearly 2 decades ago. At night, however, it is his son, Gerald, who takes over the job. Hence R.G. (Richard and Gerald) in the shop’s name! R.G. Ais Krim Bergula Apong often rotates its ice cream flavours daily (I have tried pandan, chocolate and vanilla!) so be sure to try them all and with different toppings! Not only that, you can choose toppings to go with your ice cream gula apong. Those toppings are peanuts, cornflakes, famous amos cookie and boba (new topping!).
R.G. Ais Krim Bergula Apong is well-known in Kuching as it has been operating for such a long time and for a prolonged duration of the days. Do note that it tends to get crowded during the afternoons. I would suggest to go during the night time to avoid such queues.
However, even if you happen to arrive during a long queue of customers, do not be discouraged as the ice creams are prepared at quite a fast pace which is huge relief to us all. Besides gula apong ice cream, they also sell cookies, sweets and canned beverages too!
The soft-served ice cream drenched with gula apong syrup served with the topping of your choice looks absolutely appetizing! When compared to other stalls of gula apong ice cream in Kuching, R.G. Ais Krim Bergula Apong serves a slightly more icy and rough texture to its dessert, which is how I prefer it to be! The sweetness of the gula apong syrup is not to be underestimated that’s for sure!
