If you are ever in a mood for a food hunt, make sure to keep these 5 new places in my mind.
1. Happy Juice
Happy Juice is one of the few juice bars that is available in Miri but what makes them stand out more? Happy Juice uses fresh ingredients to make their beverages. You can see them adding freshly cut fruits and vegetables as they prepare your healthy beverage. They just had their soft opening on 10th March 2020. Unfortunately, the Movement Control Order was implemented a few days after they just got started. So, make sure you stop by to show your support when you get the chance.
One thing on the menu that you must try is their Avocado Milkshake. After all, it is one of their best sellers. I remember when I first tried their Avocado Milkshake. I was super impressed at how fresh the taste of the milkshake was. You will be able to taste the actual flavor of the avocado and not some additional ingredients to make it taste better. You can also enjoy the original creamy texture of the avocado in the milkshake. Believe me when I say that this Avocado Milkshake is THICK and really filling. Order an extra-large size cup during the afternoon and you will stay full until dinner. Get this delicious cup of avocado milkshake for RM8.90 (Medium Size) or RM10.90 (Extra Large size).
Try out their fruit coolers too! It is so refreshing and surely will quench your thirst. Perfect for a hot and sunny weather. They have a variety of flavors for you to choose from. For example, Lychee Cooler, Watermelon Cooler, Passion fruit Cooler and many more. Order one and it will definitely cool you down. However, be careful to not chug down the fruit cooler so you don’t get a brain freeze. That is how cold this beverage is. Their juices are also worth a try as well.

2. Volker Miri
Every Malaysian knows the famous Oden-Oden at Family Mart. Dear fellow Mirians, you can now enjoy Oden-Oden too even when there isn’t a Family Mart in town yet. Just head over to Volker Miri to enjoy a warm bowl of Oden-Oden. Volker Miri started their business on 23rd June 2020 and has become a hit ever since. Not only do they have Oden-Oden on their menu, they have a series of Bubble Milk Tea as well. What more could you ask for?
First step of ordering your Oden-Oden will be choosing your broth. There are two types of broth for you to choose from. One of it is a clear broth with some seasoning in it to add some taste and the other one would be Tom Yam broth. I personally prefer the Tom Yam broth. It isn’t that spicy and has a tangy taste to it. After choosing your broth, you can pick what ingredients you want to be added to your bowl. There is a wide selection for you to choose from. Some of my favorites are the Cheese Tofu, Enokitake Mushroom and the Beef Meatballs but feel free to try whatever you desire.
Another recommended item on their menu is the Volker Signature Spitfire Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea. I was quite pleased when I had my first sip as their milk tea isn’t super heavy. It is also not overloaded with sweetness. The pearls are also quite chewy. The best part is the nuttiness from the brown sugar. If brown sugar isn’t your thing, you can try out their other beverage as well such as the Oreo Cheese Milk Tea and Honey Lemon Green Tea.

“Whatever, I’m getting cheese fries.” Name that film in the comment section if you know where that quote is from. How is that relevant to this place you ask? Well, Happy Potato is all about French Fries. They started serving customers their golden and yummy fries in June. Many people had already given it a try since there was huge giveaway in conjunction with their opening. So, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and give it a taste so you don’t miss out!
Here at Happy Potato, there is a type of fry for everyone. I’m sure that everyone has their own French-fry preference. Some people prefer straight cut fries, some people like waffle fries. So, don’t you worry. Happy Potato has got you covered! You can choose what type of fries that you want. There are straight cut fries, Waffle fries, Loopy fries and Smiley Fries. After you decided the shape of your fries, you can choose your flavors. There are also quite a few flavors for you to choose from ranging from Hot and Spicy to Sour Cream. The Corn Cheese is a huge win for me. Perfect mix of sweet and savory. Craving something more than fries? They also serve Popcorn Chicken as well.
For your information, every Friday is Fry-day at Happy Potato. So if you head over to Happy Potato on Friday, you are able to get two regular fries for the price of RM10. That’s such a bargain!

4. Happy Dough
Happy Dough originally started as an online business. They accept orders for sandwiches, doughnuts, fruit tarts and Bomboloni. As they progress with time, they started to develop a fan base. Many people enjoy their scrumptious treats. So, they decided to open up a physical bakery in June so that everyone can walk in and enjoy their baked goods.
So, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, the Doughnuts. They prepare a series of doughnuts daily for customers to enjoy. They have D’Premium Happy Doughnuts and Happy Doughnuts. The bakery recommendations for doughnut flavors are the KitKat Doughnut, Cheese Doughnut and the Marshmallow Doughnut. The doughnuts taste like the homemade doughnuts that are often found at the night market or the stalls by the streets but it has extra flare with all the toppings. It is equally humbling and aesthetically pleasing. Trust me when I say that the doughnuts are soft and fluffy especially when they are fresh out the kitchen.
Another thing worth mentioning is their Bomboloni series. What is a Bomboloni you ask? A Bomboloni or also known as Bombolone is an Italian dessert. It is a fried doughnuts that is filled with various fillings. Some recommended flavors are Chocolate and Peanut Butter. My personal picks are Matcha and Mango. No matter what flavor you choose, the Bomboloni will definitely be filled up to the max with fillings. SUPER SATISFACTION!

Are you in search of a new place for tea time? Well, look no further as Kopi @ 5 could be your new spot for afternoon tea sessions. Kopi @ 5 recently started their business back in February 2020. They have been receiving many praise and positive feedbacks from their customers ever since.
If you are coffee lover, this place might be perfect for you. They have several types of coffee on their menu ranging from a hot cup of Mocha to a glass of Iced Latte. They serve their cups of coffee with some incredible coffee art. Thus, the drinks are not only delicious but it is also so Instagram-worthy. Just look at how pretty that cup of double chocolate looks!
They also serve some cakes to go with your cup of coffee. Some of their popular cake selections are Burnt Cheesecake, Signature Peach Cake, Pumpkin Cheesecake and Match Red Bean Cake. All of their cakes are worth a try so don’t miss out guys.
Kopi at 5 also has amazing ambience which is one of the contributing factors to an amazing tea time experience. The place is well decorated with an earthy vibe with wood furniture and green plants. Many customers also like that their staffs are super friendly and caring.
